Seal of Biliteracy
Seal of Biliteracy Information
Dear Parents,
We are pleased to inform you that once again, the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District will be participating in the State’s Seal of Biliteracy program. Students who demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English, as well as in another language, will be recognized for their achievements by receiving a special seal on their high school diploma.
At this time, we are beginning the application process for those students who are eligible to complete the steps for attaining the Seal of Biliteracy. Students should start the process by completing the appropriate attached application. All applicants will be informed of the next steps once the applications have been reviewed. Confirmed candidates will work with an advisor this year to complete the remaining requirements. Depending on your child’s language background, he/she must complete one of the attached applications according to the appropriate category.
Please review the background categories and complete the appropriate application form:
Form A: Students who have completed a Level 4 World Language course as outlined in the initial requirements below and heritage language learners who have learned a language other than English outside of our school.
Initial requirements:
Form B: Students who are learning English as an additional language (English Language Learners/ELLs).
Completed applications are due to the World Language Chairperson on September 20, 2019.
If you have any questions, please contact either Renee Owenburg (World Languages Chairperson, 516-992-1341) or Kim Serpe (English Chairperson, 516-992-1336).
